SUMMITRIDGE RESIDENCE

Designed for a couple on the verge of empty-nesting, the Summitridge Residence is perched atop a peninsula of the Santa Monica Mountains.  Taking cues from traditional Greek architecture, the focus is on simplicity, layering, and the framing of vistas and simple geometries.  

The home is designed around a central courtyard that links the various programmatic elements together.  Airiness and ‘living outside’ were at the focus of what the owners wanted out of their home, thus glass walls throughout slide and pocket away in order to blur the boundary between indoor/outdoor and emphasize the pavilion-like nature of the massings and spaces.

Hoping for this to be a ‘forever home’, the architecture and the materials required a sureness and timelessness that allow the home to age gracefully and with an overwhelming sense of peace.
