CUTHBERT RESIDENCE

In November of 2018, the Woolsey Fire ripped through Malibu, California, devastating the bucolic beach city.  More than 700 residences, countless businesses, government buildings, and schools were burned in one of Southern California’s most prolific fires.Along with the physical damage, the fire disrupted the emotional and psychological landscape of the people and neighborhoods it affected. 

From the beginning, the home rebuild on Cuthbert has been about repairing not only destroyed landscapes, but offering a thoughtful new beginning for the owners and their family. 

The design implements traditional forms yet it is quietly stripped down with a contemporary simplicity. The home focuses on the connection to the ocean, to the light, and to a newly found peace.
