OJAI RESIDENCE SITE
The Ojai Residence is a land restoration project of an over-farmed parcel nestled in the Ojai Valley, and the base of the Topa Topa Mountain. What was once 10 acres of dust and dead citrus groves, has now been restored to what the native landscape would’ve looked like 200 years ago, before farming was introduced to the valley: a myriad of more than 100 newly planted native oaks, more than 100 newly planted native Sycamores, grasses, and shrubs.
The Main House remodel and a newly constructed Guest House are in close conversation and concert with the restored landscape and design, focusing on a strong emphasis on indoor / outdoor living. Tall ceilings and oversized windows take advantage of the mountain views and spectacular valley light.
The material palette was chosen to reflect the regional colors and textures of Ojai: warm sandy plaster walls, white oak accent, Limestone collected and quarried from the site itself. The home fits organically into the landscape and color scape, and offers rich and changing palette throughout the days and season.
